Summer Art Journaling

Last summer, I filmed an episode of The Rambling Rose where I gave my front porch a little makeover and set about painting the wild orange flowers that were growing in my cottage garden, which was looking rather tropical! It turned out to be one of my favourite spreads in my art journal. And, this year, those same wild orange flowers are back and blooming again in a riot of colour and I’ve been pondering the magic of the tiger lily. What wisdom would she share with us, if we could hear her whisper? I have a feeling it would be something like: “go wild!” or “don’t be afraid to put on a show!”. She seems to me like the Carmen Miranda of flowers and I rather fancy the other blooms in the garden might raise a few eyebrows when she opens up her glorious petals each summer.

I think she is the flower for me this year as I lean in to my art (harder than ever!) and practice extreme, radical (almost delusional!) BELIEF. Belief in myself, belief in my art, and belief that my creative dreams can… no, will… come true! I don’t know exactly how yet, but I’m going to self publish another oracle deck AND the art book I’ve been working on for so many years. Just like that incredible lily with so much pizazz, I’m just going to fearlessly bloom and trust in the magic.

If you could talk to the tiger lily, what do you think she’d tell you??
